"No way to resolve conflict between ..." and "Consider app.config remapping of assembly ..."

Jan-DavidStrkJan-DavidStrk USMember ✭✭

Hey guys,

xamarin is driving me crazy right now. I am using it in Visual Studio 2015. I tried to build the project as usual, and three types of errors (in the Droid-Package) poped up:
1. type (just once):

No way to resolve conflict between "System.Xml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" and "System.Xml, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e". Choosing "System.Xml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" arbitrarily.

  1. type (multiple times, > 10):

Consider app.config remapping of assembly "System.Runtime, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" from Version "4.0.0.0" [C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Runtime\v4.0_4.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a\System.Runtime.dll] to Version "4.1.0.0" [C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\MonoAndroid\v1.0\Facades\System.Runtime.dll] to solve conflict and get rid of warning.

  1. type (just once, after all the other errors):

C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Xamarin\Android\Xamarin.Android.Common.targets(2113,3): warning MSB3247: Found conflicts between different versions of the same dependent assembly. In Visual Studio, double-click this warning (or select it and press Enter) to fix the conflicts; otherwise, add the following binding redirects to the "runtime" node in the application configuration file: [and so on ....]

Things I tried to solve the problem:

  • Clean Project -> Rebuild (No success)
  • Delete all NuGet Packages & reinstall them (No success)
  • Installed all updates, rebooted PC & Visual Studio multiple times (No success)
  • Reinstalled windows (had to do that anyways) (No success)
  • Reinstalled Xamarin, Android SDK, ... (No success)
  • Googled all night long (No success)

I have no idea how to solve that problem. Please help me, I really start to enjoy Xamarin. Some information:

Did you try double clicking the warning shown in (3)? This will add entries to you app config to fix the mapping.

The issues is your app is using multiple versions of an assembly and it's getting stuck working out which one to use.

Also from VS open the nuget package manager for the solution and see if there are any packages in the consolidate tab. This shows packages with different versions in different projects and you can use this tab to update where necessary until no packages are showing that need consolidating.

  • Jan-DavidStrkJan-DavidStrk USMember ✭✭

Thanks for your suggestion! I double-clicked the warning multiple times, but VS is just jumping to this codeblock in the Xamarin.Android.Common.targets-file:
    <ResolveAssemblyReference AllowedAssemblyExtensions="$(AllowedReferenceAssemblyFileExtensions)" AssemblyFiles="@(ResolvedUserAssemblies)" FindDependencies="True" FindRelatedFiles="False" FindSatellites="True" SearchPaths="$(AssemblySearchPaths)" TargetFrameworkMoniker="$(TargetFrameworkMoniker)" TargetFrameworkMonikerDisplayName="$(TargetFrameworkMonikerDisplayName)" TargetFrameworkDirectories="$(TargetFrameworkDirectory)"> <Output TaskParameter="SatelliteFiles" ItemName="_AndroidResolvedSatellitePaths"/> </ResolveAssemblyReference>

And no packages are showing up in the consolidate tab, everything is on the same version.
Some more ideas? Facing this issue since nearly a week now

I'd love to help resolve this issue! The error message is definitely confusing and doesn't help to debug the underlying issue.

Feel free to send me a Xamarin Forums private message with a sample project that's experiencing the issue, your Visual Studio IDE logs (Help -> Zip Xamarin Logs), and your version information. Essentially, as much information as you can provide to help diagnose this issue and get it resolved.

I have referenced an Assembly "System.ServiceModel" in my Xamarin Forms project. This causes this issue. I removed this assembly and installed "System.ServiceModel.Security" and "System.ServiceModel.Http" from nuget package.

    This resolved my problem.
