Xamarin University

Hi,

Has anyone attended Xamarin University? I was wondering what parts are real-time (or is there any on-demand sections)?

Thank you.

    The first set of classes don't start until January.

    Thank you.

    Actually it looks like the one starting on Jan 20 is already sold out. The next one starts on Feb 24. I wrongly assumed that the content was mostly on-demand.

    In my opinion, on demand is the way to go - I'm way too busy to drive 100 miles or fly to wherever the closest training session is - added cost and added time I don't have. I'd gladly pay a reasonable amount to view this stuff on demand.

    I think the real reason they probably don't do it is because this stuff is such a moving target. Yeah, that's another problem I have - I would rather have more stable longer release cycles - that way documentation, stability, and training can actually work hand in hand. This continuous integration stuff makes sense for bugs, but not features! Just my personal opinion. Way too hard to sync everybody up - doc teams, training, end-users, etc.

    @ZacharyBurns,
    I think (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) the attendees are required to spend 5-6 hours/week to follow the content. So it is still delivered electronically however I think most of it is on real-time, not on-demand.

    It'll be focused on Live-Online classes that'll be held multiple times so that people with varying schedules can attend them. The classes will be small, 20 people max, and they'll be led by a live instructor. Attendees will be able to work on their own computer, or log into a Virtual Machine that's all setup with the materials and software. There will also be lots of take home materials for self study.

    We do recommend people budget for 5-7 hours each week for class and lab time. More scheduling info will be released at the beginning of January.

    Thank you for the clarifications and for the official voice :).

    Thanks Bryan.....Ah, I totally missed that word "online" - otherwise I would have signed up for the January when I had the chance - Doh!

    I did sign up for the MSDN special offer - the day of the official Microsoft/Xamarin partnership, but received no other correspondence - other than "Thanks for signing up" - so not sure what's happening on that front.

    I have been enrolled in January 20 classes .My doubt is that if i miss a online class , can i get a back up class or a recorded video class of that specific day

    @BryanCostanich maybe you can answer if it will be possible to get a certification without following the courses?

    @BryanCostanich

    Also interested in this. I've looked around Xamarin.com but haven't managed to find any route to get certification that doesn't involve the University. While I'd dearly love to participate in it, it's not within my budget right now.

    Hello. A week ago I registered for the Feb course with my MSDN number, but have not heard anything. Is this usual?

    Thanks,
    Tristan

    @ZacharyBurns - Look for an email from Rich Taylor, for some reason your registration didn't make it into the system.

    @TristanHeal.4060 - This was our fault, and you should have the email now. Basically, you were opt-out on our emails, so even though we added you to the group that got the Xam.U emails, yours didn't go out because of the opt-out settings. Should be fixed now. Reach out if it hasn't been.

    @BeingSrv - We'll be offering classes multiple times, so you should be all right.

    @CheeseBaron, @RichardHopkins - This is still up in the air. We're currently exploring policies that would allow qualified Xamarin users to take the certification, even if they didn't take the class. We'll have more resolution here within the coming months.

    FYI - "Talked" with Rich - I think I'm all signed up - thanks!
