Should it be necessary to start Visual Studio as administrator?

When I don't start Visual Studio as administrator, I get the following error:

Error Xamarin.Android for Visual Studio requires Android SDK. Please install it or set Android SDK path on Tools->Options->Xamarin->Android Settings menu.

In the options dialog, under Xamarin, the Android SDK Location is set to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk", which is correct, but there is a red X beside it, and not the green check mark.

Should the Android SDK be located elsewhere? Or is there some other problem at work here?

Not sure why it's happening. Probably your c drive doesn't have access to other users accept admin. A temp solution though from visual studio properties you can set as start as admin by default. You can search online as how to do that .
