Is it too early to ask what the plans are around Visual Studio 2013? :)

I too am anxiously awaiting some news on VS2013. I am a new user (evaluating for the moment, but likin it a lot!), and want to move to 2013 as soon as possible.

  • I will check later today with VS 2013 RC and the latest Xamarin release if it is working again. The silence from Xamarin on this topic is a real pity.

  • Seems to be working again. Simply follow the steps outlined here. Feedback is appreciated.

  • I made a cmd/bat file to automate this:

    xcopy /Y /O /X /E /H /K "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Xamarin" "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Xamarin"

    xcopy /Y /O /X /E /H /K "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Android" "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Android"
    xcopy /Y /O /X /E /H /K "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\ios" "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\ios"

    xcopy /Y /O /X /E /H /K "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp\Xamarin.Android" "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp\Xamarin.Android"
    xcopy /Y /O /X /E /H /K "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp\ios" "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates\CSharp\ios"

    "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup /nosetupvstemplates

This doesn't work for me. On my machine there is no Xamarin directory in the extensions folder. I am wondering whether the installer has skipped those files due to the fact that VS2012 is not installed on the machine.

I am using VS2013RC on Windows 8.1 RTM with no prior install of VS2012.

  • You probably need Visual Studio 2012 anyway, I've found that even though the extensions do work in VS2013, there are several bugs. Loading of xamarin projects sometimes seems to fail completely.

No news? windows store for 8.1 is out in the end of the month it would be good to get xamarin apps for 8.1 ready in time :)

I'm hoping it's only another 48 hours before we hear the reveal.

I'm using VS2013RC on Windows 7 with installed VS2013 RC too.
    And I can't use it: http://blog.fire-development.com/2013/07/01/install-xamarin-in-vs-2013-preview-1/ :( Big problem...
