XAML Intellisense not available VS2017 - Xamarin University

I just started out using Visual Studio 2017 in combination with Xamarin to experiment and follow some tutorials. I've used previous editions before, but mostly for webdevelopment. One of the things that got me stuck almost immediately is that the XAML Intellisense is not working. Yes, it is something I can work around. But it makes development quite hard and annoying, since the whole reason for working in an IDE like VS2017 is the autocompletion, code inspection and such.

Steps to reproduce this issue are the following:

  1. Install a clean version of VS2017 Community Edition
  2. Open the Visual Studio Installer and install the "Mobile Development with .NET" workload
  3. Download the 'starter solution' example in the following Tutorial: https://elearning.xamarin.com/forms/xam130/exercise1/
  4. Apply the updates it asks you to install (apparently, the solution is not by default compatible with VS2017)
  5. Create a new XAML file in the PCL Directory (which is step 2 from the tutorial)
  6. Edit the XAML file, no intellisense is present

Notes:

  • I managed to get Intellisense working in a project where I started out from scratch. But cannot get it to work in this tutorial.
  • The intellisense I do get is looking like this:

I have the following versions installed:

I've already found a solution to this issue (still annoying that it doesn't work out of the box, but okay).

Click the projects in the solution and choose unload. Then, right after they have been unloaded. Click the projects and reload them again. The XAML Intellisense should be working now.
