What are the architectural differences between Xamarin.Android and iOS?

We've all heard the story about how Xamarin for Android came to be. The XobotOS project and the Sharpen Java to C# conversion tool etc. But I've not heard much about how the Xamarin.iOS architecture was designed. How does it differ? Were automated tools like Sharpen used? I can imagine the complexity is far higher since it's not simply a mapping layer between two Managed runtimes (Mono and Davlik) but between Managed and Unmanaged runtime.

Does anyone care to shed any light on the story behind it?

As an aside question, why are there no product bundles to purchase both Android and iOS editions and receive a discount? Seems a fairly reasonable thing to want? (Too late for me now though!)

There is a discount applied when you buy multiple products. Try adding them both to your cart and you will see it.
