Downgrade to "Visual Studio XA 4.2.6 to 6.1" - i.e. the Visual Studio plugin

Hi,

I recently allowed Xamarin to update the Android components but it has changed the packaging process.
I want to go back to the old process which means I need to downgrade.

The documentation:
https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/android/deployment,testing,_and_metrics/publishing_an_application/part_2-_signing_the_android_application_package/

Says
This guide explains how to sign the Android application package using Xamarin Android 7.0 or later. If you are using Xamarin Android version 4.2.6 to 6.1, see Signing the Android Application Package (Visual Studio XA 4.2.6 to 6.1).

So it looks like I want Visual Studio XA 6.1

All of the documentation that I've found about downgrading says "go to the downloads page". e.g. https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/10132/howto-install-older-versions-of-xamarin-software

The downloads page, however lists versions of Xamarin.Android between 4.2 and 4.3 -- none of these are up to 6.1 or 7

In visual Studio (2015), under Help / About Visual Studio, it lists "Xamarin.Android 7.0.1.6"

In Visual Studio, under Tools / Extensions and Updates it says "Xamarin for Visual Studio" version 4.2.695"

So it seems it's the one under Help / About that I need to change.

How do I do this?

Thanks,

The Archive Manager was introduced in Xamarin for Visual Studio 4.2; downgrading is going to put you several release back, which is not something we’d recommend. Is there a particular issue you’re running into packaging?

An alternative to the Archive Manager would be using MSBuild with the target SignAndroidPackage; also, the new build property AndroidBuildApplicationPackage can be added to the .csproj to create the APK. More details can be found in the Android Build Process documentation. I hope that helps!
