minimal installation required to get VS and Xamarin up and running

So, I wanna try xamarin to develop mobile apps, but I want to do it only for Android for now, and I've noticed that the VS installer tries to install a heckload of stuff that I don't seem to need to only develop apps for android on windows. So, can I just unselect all and then just select xamarin on VS setup?

Honestly, having the iOS stuff in there won't make much different in installation size. Android really is the big drive eater because of all the Android emulator images etc.

You really want to run the VS installer as 'custom' then tick "Cross Platform", and let it install everything it wants - if you want to avoid 'weird and unexplained behavior' down the line.

Also, let it install to the default location. It doesn't play well if you try to put it on your 'e:' drive for example.

well, the default location thing isn't a problem: the installer won't let me install anywhere else anyway. I'll do just what you said, thanks!
