Mono AOT on Windows - as.exe errors

I'm having trouble getting Ahead Of Time compilation to work

I've installed Mono (version: Mono JIT compiler version 4.4.1 (Visual Studio built mono)) and cygwin with binutils

I'm running Windows 10

when I'm trying to run:
mono --aot myapp.exe

Cygwin assembler (as.exe) is giving me lots of errors like below:

Assembler messages:
Error: unknown pseudo-op: .local' Warning: .type pseudo-op used outside of .def/.endef ignored. Error: junk at end of line, first unrecognized character isM'
Warning: .size pseudo-op used outside of .def/.endef ignored.
Error: junk at end of line, first unrecognized character is M' Error: unknown pseudo-op:.local'
Warning: .type pseudo-op used outside of .def/.endef ignored.
Error: junk at end of line, first unrecognized character is `M'

and many more lines like this

I've also installed MinGW and its assembler is producing lots similar of errors as well

what am I doing wrong here ? how to make it work ?

thanks in advance
