    @MichaelPerry

To get this far, I created a new account on the Mac with no spaces. I made it an administrator. I used a local password instead of connecting it to my Apple ID. I logged in, and I had Xamarin Studio running.

Have you successfully deployed an app from XS to the normal simulator?

Can you update (https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/cross-platform/windows/ios-simulator/) to the newest version and try again? We've added extra detail to the logs to help debug these situations, and fixed the account spaces issue.

@ShantimohanElchuri Have you installed the simulator from that document? The checkbox will not appear until the simulator is installed separately.

I have updated to the latest version of the simulator, and now I'm successful. Thanks for addressing this!

That's it @EricMaupin . I thought updating XamarinVS was sufficient. After installing the preview simulator I got the 'check box'. I will test it tonight at home.

OK, @EricMaupin I tested the iOS Simulator remoting...but first experience is not positive.

    1. First, when I started running an iOS app from VS for pretty long time (2+ hrs) the simulator window was very small with just the title bar and a message 'Updating'. I closed it finally.
    2. All the time the simulator on my MBP was showing. So thought closing it will help...but no it didn't help.
    3. Then I restarted debugging. Now also that 'Updating' window appeared. But quickly the full simulator was shown but failed to install my app into the simulator. Tried once more but in vain.
    4. Then I unchecked the check box in the options, and ran my app on the simulator on my MBP. Then again tried to remote the simulator but this time also it failed to install the app.
    5. But after trying 2 or 3 times more, the app was loaded successfully and ran well in the remote simulator.
    6. What I have observed is that the state of my app was same as that on the MBP Simulator previous run. Of course taht should be expected it is just 'remoting'.

When it ran finally, the simulator on my MBP was showing. I have not tried closing it this time. But is that a requirement for the simulator to remote to VS?

But this is very convenient that I don't have to sit near the MBP while debugging my app. Now I can sit anywhere in my home and still work on my app seamlessly...Windows 10 emulators for mobile and local machine, VS emulator for Android and now remoe iOS simulator...nothing to beat...

I get this error when I try to install 9.1.2: "The specified account already exists".

Using Cycle 7 stable and the latest iOS Simulator preview, the simulator is now showing for me. But it's telling me that the app could not be installed and keeps hanging on the apple logo/boot screen (I've waited for over an hour and tried multiple times, even restarting the real simulator). Nothing in the log, except for the message that app installation has failed. Any idea?

  • ShantimohanElchuriShantimohanElchuri ✭✭✭✭✭ USMember ✭✭✭✭✭

@OlafBartelt Didn't you see my post just above? Did you try that?

  • OlafBarteltOlafBartelt ✭✭ DEMember ✭✭

@ShantimohanElchuri Yeah, I tried that all, but all I see in the simulator is the Apple logo, like it's trying to boot, but nothing happens. Also, as soon as I start the Xamarin Simulator, the real iOS Simulator on the Mac freezes, i.e. I can't switch pages on SpringBoard, etc. anymore :-(

  • ShantimohanElchuriShantimohanElchuri ✭✭✭✭✭ USMember ✭✭✭✭✭

@OlafBartelt Sorry for your plight, and we all had our share of sorrow tales, sometimes very frustrating. There are so many people who are having issue in even connecting to the Mac. I think you must have already tried 'unchecking the box, run it on simulator on Mac and then check the box again' and rebooting both the machines.

Keep trying and hope soon it will start working, like in my case.

When it ran finally, the simulator on my MBP was showing. I have not tried closing it this time. But is that a requirement for the simulator to remote to VS?

No, it should not be open. There's a known case where it will, but you can/should just close it.

Also, as soon as I start the Xamarin Simulator, the real iOS Simulator on the Mac freezes, i.e. I can't switch pages on SpringBoard, etc. anymore :-(

You should not be trying to have both running at the same time, it's like running two copies of the same simulator at the same time and isn't a supported scenario.

Then I unchecked the check box in the options, and ran my app on the simulator on my MBP. Then again tried to remote the simulator but this time also it failed to install the app.

Can you send me your logs from your windows and mac machines? C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Xamarin\Logs\Xamarin.Simulator for Windows and ~/Library/Logs/Xamarin/Simulator.Server/ for the Mac.

@EricMaupin The iOS Simulator on Windows just failed to install my app. As I mentioned earlier it did finally work last week. So trouble again. This time as indicated by you I have closed the simulator on Mac before running it in Windows.

So as requested by you I am attaching herewith the two log files.

Hi, I've been using the simulator for 20 days now, it's a wonderfull tool. I've try it with alpha version. Since 13Th june, I switch to stable. It works wonderfully. Except rare time I have to relaunch it (maybe because of mac agent connexion failure). Thanks for this tool. But 2 things:

    • I'd like to have a "turn off network" button to test offline mode.

    • Where is the folder of the screenshot I try to make ?

@EricMaupin Is it possible to run simultaneously two simulators on one physical Mac? I made two accounts on Mac, signed on to both, and then connected to each of them from different Windows-machines. When first Windows-machine trying to launch simulator it is launching successfully. But when second Windows-machine trying to launch simulator it is showing message box "The device xxx was not found.". Simulator log on windows machine contain interesting information:

    Device not found:

In this situation I launched some of listed simulators from command line on second windows-machine and found out that requested simulator (823FCA2A-A0C6-4B89-9924-9FC5CC86D1B1 iPhone 5 v8.4) corresponds to (CF227DDF-4D46-4B22-B383-6A784BC959AC), which is also iPhone 5 v8.4.
Then I tried to take command-line arguments from windows-log and replace requested simulator Id with corresponding one. Simulator has launched, but shows error "Failed to install here_is_application_path to CF227DDF-4D46-4B22-B383-6A784BC959AC".
