Visual Studio/App hang

Hi

I'm using VS2012, and lately having troubles debugging. When I start debugging my Forms App and Visual Studio freeze (no crash) and nothing happens anymore. I can't stop debuging, only way to stop is to kill VS with the taskmanager.
This happens only on Android and it doen't happen when I debbug from Xamarin Studio. It happens with Xamarin Player and Genimotion Nexus 6, but not Genimotion with Custom Device Android 4.4. It also happens on physical device. But even on the devices where the app freezes, the app never freezes when I start the allready installed app (not debuging).

I'm stuck with this. But it is a real problem, as I can't debbug Android application anymore!

I can't tell from which part of code it comes, as it simply freezes (and it doesn't freez if I go step by step...)

Any help or idea where to look is greatly apricieated!

Martin

    Hi @FaltysMartin,

I've not seen that issue, and unfortunately I don't have 2012 around anymore.

Any chance you can update to VS2013? Even if it's the free community version? http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/news/vs2013-community-vs.aspx. That may fix the problem straight away.

VS2012 should still work fine as it's listed as a supported environment, but I don't think many of the instructors (if any) are using it at this point. Some of the classes require the updated PCL profiles which only come with VS2013 so I'm pretty sure everyone has upgrade at this point. In addition, since VS2015 is now almost out (it is also free right now since it's in beta), some have even transitioned to that. Don't quote me on this but I think you can even install it side-by-side with other VS versions. Xamarin works great on it and it's looking quite nice (very fast and includes a built-in Android emulator on top of Hyper-V).

Sorry I don't have a better suggestion! I'd ask on the (Visual Studio Forums)[https://forums.xamarin.com/categories/visual-studio] and see if they have a solution there.

    Good luck!
    Mark

    Hi @FaltysMartin ,

If this is still a problem take a look here: http://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/comment/100346/#Comment_100346
If you read through there's a link to some other related threads as well.

    Cheers
