Incompatible project versions? (please go to https://store.../ to upgrade to Business Edition issue

I am completely new to Xamarin.Mac (though not to mono or Xamarin) and just, today, started to evaluate it as a platform for UI development. Downloaded Xamarin.Mac and then opened the OxyPlot.Xamarin.Mac project in, as I want to evaluate OxyPlot in the context of an OS X app.

On trying to build / run the app, got the error:

"The Unknown Edition of Xamarin.Mac does not support building outside of Xamarin Studio. Please got to to upgrade to the Business Edition".

Note that I have Xamarin Studio 5.7.1 (build 17) w/ mono 3.12.0 CLR. I downloaded today with just Xamarin.Mac enabled.

Please advise as to how can get this to work

@JonathanShore - That github link is dead for me. I'm assuming it is a private depo.

    • What version of Xamarin.Mac do you have installed?
    • Check the references in the project in question. Is it using MonoMac.dll (open source bits), XamMac.dll (Classic), or Xamarin.Mac.dll (Unified)?
    • Are you building inside XS or from the command line?

We've rarely seen that unknown edition error internally, but I believe we had most of the cases hammered out.

  • the project is public: This is a project that is directly supported (and probably ported by Xamarin) to Xamarin.Mac. I was referring to the Xamarin.Mac Source/OxyPlot.Xamarin.Mac.sln.

Looking more closely at this project, it is not a sample application, rather the xamarin bindings for the library itself. Still, I should be able to compile this.

  • To answer your other questions:

    • project referring to Xamarin.Mac.dll
    • I was attempting to build from within xamarin and not from the cmd line

I am reinstalling Xamarin Studio, in case the prior install was confused. I had previously (prior to the Xamarin.Mac download) been using Xamarin Studio proper for just C# / F# dev. Will try with a clean install and revert.

What version of Xamarin.Mac are you using? Xamarin Studio -> About -> Details?

  • Update:

    • I removed /Applications/Xamarin Studio
    • did a full install, including .Mac, .ios, .andriod

Opening up XS on the same project, same problem. Looking at the "About Xamarin Studio" though, I see the following:

    Xamarin Studio
    Version 5.7.1 (build 17)
    Installation UUID: ee7217fd-1b48-49a5-a5c7-f3afd1c8608e
    Mono 3.12.0 ((detached/de2f33f)
    GTK+ 2.24.23 (Raleigh theme)
    Package version: 312000076

    Apple Developer Tools
    Xcode 6.1.1 (6611)
    Build 6A2008a

    Version: (Starter Edition)
    Version: (Starter Edition)

    Not Installed

Xamarin.Mac was definitely selected. Somehow indicates was not installed. Is there a way to manually install this or is there a problem with this specific installer?

  • thanks, that solved the problem

Sorry for the trouble. We are working hard on getting an updated installer out.
