Java Runtime Environment error code after clean install Yosemite + Xamarin Studio

edorphyedorphy USMember ✭✭

I clean installed Yosemite today on a second partition and Xamarin Studio cannot build Android projects.

During Xamarin Studio installation, I was prompted to install JRE. I assume it was JRE 7, see attached image. When I follow the more info link, the page states OS X 10.10 does not support JRE 7. I installed JRE 8u25 for 64-bit machines and restarted. I cannot build any android projects. Does anyone know if this is a Xamarin.Android or a Android SDK/JDK issue?

Fortunately I am dual booting and can still use it in Mavericks.

An empty Xamarin.Forms project build yields the following compile error:
/Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/External/xbuild/Xamarin/Android/Xamarin.Android.Common.targets: Error: Tool exited with code: 1. Output: No Java runtime present, requesting install. (yosemite_test.Android)

    Heya!

The bug with Java not being able to be installed is a bug in the Java installer which sees 10.10 (Yosemite) as 10.1.

An official Apple package can be found at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

Or just install JDK 8 -- it works fine for building Android. Not sure what you were seeing, but JDK 8 works OK for me.

I'm getting bit by this, too. I did an upgrade install of Yosemite yesterday.

I follow that link and I see:

This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005.

We should install Apple's Java 6 package to fix this problem?

Never mind. I went ahead and did the Java install from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 and everything's working fine now.

When I installed the update Xamarin Studio requested on YOSEMITE OSX the following occurred:
    01. Upon launching xamarin studio (after update) it gave the "view webc ontent" "java" dialog box shown in the first post in this thread.
    02. I donwloaded and installed kb DL1572
    03. When launching xamarin studio now I see it loading the IDE, but it then immediately closes afterwards...

I already tried reinstalling and deleting everything. I'm unable to run / start xamarin studio at the moment on OSX Yosemite
