Please see https://releases.xamarin.com/beta-release-15-3-preview-4/ for the details about this release, including the steps to update or downgrade as needed.

Note that this Beta version is a smaller release compared to the current Alpha preview. In particular, it does not include the Xamarin Live Player, Docker, Azure Functions, or Xamarin IoT preview features announced at Build. Please stay on the Alpha channel if you wish to continue to preview those features.

Update for June 29: The Xamarin extension versions included in the latest Visual Studio 2017 Preview version 15.3.0 Preview 3 are for the moment still the earlier Beta versions from June 26. The new matching Xamarin versions will be integrated into the Visual Studio Installer at a future date that follows the upstream VS 2017 Preview release schedule.

Update for June 26: This release is now available as part of the June 26th – version 15.3.0 Preview 3 update for Visual Studio 2017 Preview as well as in the Xamarin updater channels.

Do you no longer estimate release dates? On the blog under Upcoming Release Dates, it just shows this release and past versions.

Good question. I'll check with the team. It does seem silly for that section to say "upcoming" if it's only showing past dates.

As this is a Beta build, there are some known issues and the possibility of new issues being found during testing.

What are the known issues? Or is that just boilerplate

It's partly boilerplate and partly a reminder that there are some documented known issues listed in the release notes for the products.

    For example:

Are you guys moving away from the 3 channel approach / doing away with Alpha in the near future?
I ask because at the moment it seems like Beta is more 'Alpha' and Alpha is actually the 'Beta' as far as latest tooling versions.

Also, any ideas when the Beta channel will get Live player and the other noted missing features?

There are no current plans to remove the Alpha channel.

I suspect you are referring to the unusual situation at the moment where the versions on the Alpha channel are chronologically older than the versions on the Beta channel. That arose from an uncommon use of the Alpha channel as a way to deliver early previews of several features that were not targeted for inclusion in the Beta or Stable Xamarin 15.3 release. The more common approach in the past for cases like that has been to provide stand-alone preview downloads that are not published to any updater channel. The unusual use of the Alpha channel was in part a trial for comparison to the stand-alone download strategy.

any ideas when the Beta channel will get Live player and the other noted missing features?

The team is working on a few details around that. I think the plan will be mostly clarified for users when the Alpha channel gets updated to contain the first Xamarin 15.4 release preview (tentatively within the next couple of weeks).

@BrendanZagaeski I figured as much in regards to the latest Beta being chronologically newer, so thanks for verifying!
Always excited for new realeases, keep up the good work!
