Profiler doesn't start, no error messages

Running Visual Studio 2017 Update 1 on Windows 10 Creators Update.

Same problem whether I try to start it from VS2017 or stand-alone.

Profiler log:

I've tried starting VS2017 as administrator, doesn't help.

My VS2017 is licensed as Enterprise through my MSDN account.

What version of Profiler are you using? Could you share the complete logs with us?
It will help us to troubleshoot the issue

hmm, this is weird, the IDE log shows the profiler is being started with the correct arguments, but the profiler log shows no arguments being passed, so:

    • once the profiler is started, can you check (in task manager I guess?) what's the full arguments list of the running XamarinProfiler.exe?
    • also while on task manager, can you check if there are other instances of the profiler running?

As we've mentioned before in this forum, if you add all the requested info to a new bug in, we will be faster in fixing it

Sure - I figured I should confirm with you that it's not just a problem with my usage or my setup before I file it as a bug, but I can certainly file a bug instead if you prefer to manage things that way.

The profiler does not run long enough to examine its argument list, or anything else on the process, in Task Manager. It shows up for just about 1 second, and then disappears.

There are no instances of the profiler running.

I should perhaps mention that I can also not start the profiler on the Mac. If I try to start it directly from launch pad or from Finder I get the error message:

    An error has occurred
The type initializer for 'XamarinProfiler.Core.Platforms.Android.PlatformAndroid' threw an exception.

If I try to start it through Xamarin Studio on the Mac, the menu item is just not there under the Run menu.

As mentioned in the bug, that error on Mac is because you don't have Xamarin.Android installed. We have already fixed the crash internally, but for now, you can just install Xamarin.Android and it should work.

On Windows, not sure if it's the same problem, but looks like it is.
