Please see https://releases.xamarin.com/beta-release-15-1-rc2/ for the details about this release, including the steps to update or downgrade as needed.

This release uses a new naming convention "15.1" that more closely resembles the sub-version numbering of Visual Studio 2017. "15.1" in this new scheme matches up with what Xamarin would have called "Cycle 10" under the old scheme.

This release is now available in the Xamarin updater channels and as part of the March 27 update for Visual Studio Preview. Note that the Xamarin version number in Visual Studio 2015 is slightly ahead of the version number in Visual Studio Preview in order to provide early availability of a few additional fixes. Xamarin coordination with the upstream schedule has been evolving across the VS 2017 releases, and plans are underway to synchronize more tightly as soon as possible. Watch for additional news on that topic as the 15.1 release moves into the Stable channel in the upcoming weeks.

Seems like this is showing up as an available update in Xamarin Studio even though I have it set to the stable channel. Is that supposed to happen?

Hello there. I'm not able to install the update to VS 2015 listed as "Xamarin 4.4.0.30". The download claims to complete, but nothing happens when clicking install.

Looking at the TempDownload folder, I only see an MSI for the Workbooks and Inspector update. There is no MSI with the name "CEEB6A85-3EE8-4027-8DDA-747947CA970D" which the related XML file seems to reference. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm also having the same problem @AKythor. Hopefully Xamarin can post the link to the MSI so i can quickly update and keep it moving.

Update. I was able to find the download location of the visual studio update and the simulator update.

The updates are available at https://download.xamarin.com/XamarinforVisualStudio/Windows/Xamarin.VisualStudio_4.4.0.31.msi
    https://dl.xamarin.com/xamarin-simulator/Xamarin.Simulator.Installer.1.0.1.94.msi

HEADS UP: the installation of the Visual Studio update file messed up the Xamarin tools in Vs.net. A second installation of the same msi file fixed everything. You may not have the same results..

Can I install that file with VS 2017? or do I need a VSIX? or is it just the Installer which doesn't support preview builds.

To get this Xamarin 15.1 Beta version in VS 2017, the currently available mechanism is to install the March 27 update for Visual Studio Preview or newer. The Visual Studio Preview can be installed simultaneously alongside your main Visual Studio 2017 installation. The Xamarin documentation section about VS 2017 updates might be a handy reference.

While in theory it is also possible to install individual .vsix files by hand in VS 2017 (for various Visual Studio components), individual .vsix files generally are not provided for the individual components as long as they are available via the Visual Studio Installer. Since the Visual Studio Preview product in the Visual Studio Installer now includes the Xamarin 15.1 Beta versions, there are not currently any individual .vsix files published outside of that integrated installer experience.

OK, but I think it would still make sense to break the rule and publish .vsix (e.g. make Xamarin component per se optional) so that at least we get access to bleeding edge alpha channel or use preview Xamarin with stable VS for instance.
