Xamarin Test Recorder fails installing ipa on iPhone (installation OK with Xcode)

I need to record some test with XTR using an .ipa provided by customer and a real iPhone 5C, the ipa can be installed correctly using Xcode but XTR always fails installing it.
I have installed all the certificate and mobile provision used by the developer.
On the MAC of the developer XTR work fine so it's a problem of my machine, I can't understand where is the problem.

My machine info:
MAC OS: 10.12.1
Xcode: 8.0
Xamarin Studio Community: 6.1.4
Xamarin Test Recorder: 1.1.2

here the XTR log:

Do you have a currently valid code signing identity & provisioning profile of your own on the system for the iOS device you're testing on? If so, can you try building an IPA locally (you can even just use an iOS template app), and then opening it in Xamarin Test Recorder to see if it is able to sign that IPA?

  • Yes, I have.
I have the same signing file & provisioning profile sent me by developers.
They also allowed me to build the app myself but I still have the problem above,
the ipa can be installed directly on the iPhone using Xcode or iTunes but
it always fail to be installed by Xamarin Test Recorder.

Thanks for the update, I'm passed your information on to our Test Recorder team and they are investigating.

  • Any update on this? I am having the same issue with build 1.1.14 of the Xamarin test recorder.
Can also install the app on my device without a problem from Visual Studio but it fails from Xamarin Recorder.

There were a few updates specifically applied for iOS in build 1.1.15, and there's a more recent update (1.1.18) currently available in the Dev channel. Does updating help with the issue or change any of your observations on the problem?

Same here, On 7.0+ devices Test recorder isn't working. On a 6.0 device it works, but after recording few steps the app freezes.

    Hi @Datha,

Thanks for reaching out. Given this thread has fallen silent for several months, and it had some incomplete information to begin with; it's difficult to determine if your issue has the same underlying cause (or even what that underlying cause was in the original case.)

One quick thing to try is see if you're on the latest version of Xamarin Test Recorder. On Windows I think you can check in Extensions & Updates; on Mac you can go to Xamarin Test Recorder > Check for Updates > Weekly or Dev channel.

I don't currently have a local Android 7 device, but I do have an Android 8.1 device, and confirmed that I'm able to record and run tests on it currently; there were some recent updates to allow for Android 8.0 support, possibly they may have indirectly changed / fixed some Android 7 issues.

If updating does not help, can you reach out to support by logging into testcloud.xamarin.com & clicking on "Support" in the menubar?

If you use this link from the page of your affected Test Run, then our support team will automatically receive a link to the page and we can investigate the test in more detail. Otherwise please also include a direct link to the test run. It is not required to set the link to "shareable" when contacting support, since we have administrative settings to view your test run without you displaying it publicly.
