No matter what I do: targetplatformversion cannot be null

I can't create a blank project. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, modified, uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, modified, uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, modified for over 96 hours and I still can't create a blank project. Oh... I also deleted Package Caches, the App Data/Microsoft/VS/14 folder and other temp files. Also tried stand-alone installers. Also tried lots of other time wasters...clearly irritated, but don't want to quit....

I have no idea what to look for since I'm installing this product for the first time.

I would start with a clean, unmodified Visual Studio install (e.g. just VS, no plugins other than what gets installed with the default basic install) and make sure that works. Then add the Xamarin Studio components and make sure that works. Then add any other plugins one at a time and test in between each. That should narrow down the problem.

  • All of these ideas are great, mainly because I have tried them all. I have now (after a week) narrowed down the issue to the fact that if I try to uninstall Universal Windows Platform(UWP), then reinstall the UWP tools it takes 11+ hours and never finishes. I have uninstalled everything I can think of, reinstalled without UWP, tried to add UWP afterward, and still the install doesn't finish. I think I now know the problem doesn't exist with Xamarian as originally thought, but more with the installation of VS Community 2015 and UWP. Can anyone give me guidance in that respect? Why would the install stall for 11+ hours without a failure for UWP (Universal Windows Platform tools 1.4.1)? Everything else in VS Community works perfect without any problems.
