Xamarin Studio doesn't switch to "Pro" after logging in with Microsoft credentials

FabioGFabioG ITBeta, University ✭✭✭

I've just installed Xamarin Cycle 9 RC. When I log into Xamarin Studio 6.2 (build 1718) using my Microsoft credentials the account page says "Visual Studio Professional" but XS still reports "Community" for all the product installed on the Mac (Studio, iOS, Mac and Android). Is this a known issue?

Hey FabioG, I'm not aware of any issue like this yet. Could you send us the log files?

@codyr, thanks for the reply. I've installed Cycle 9 RC from scratch on a new MacBook Pro and everything's working fine. On my old Mac, the logs show a mismatch between the licences acquired using my Microsoft credential and the older (expired) Xamarin Business licences I used to have. The relevant part of the log seems to be:

Could it be related to some old licence leftovers on the file system?

@FabioG Yeah that sounds like a possibility. In the identity dialog do you see both a Microsoft and a Xamarin item in the list? Could you try logging out entirely and then logging back in using just your MSDN id and not Xamarin?

@codyr, thank you very much for the support. I did that to no avail. I only see my Microsoft credentials in the XS identity dialog.
What I ended up doing (after unsuccessfully deleting a bunch of files from various folders in ~/Library) was:

I have received an invoice ($0) and now I have a Xamarin Business subscription activated for iOS, Android an Mac until July the 22nd 2017. So far so good...

    I'm a bit confused:

    1. I thought the Business subscription had been phased out in favour of the Professional one.
    2. The renewal page on https://store.xamarin.com says the amount due to renew the subscription after July the 22nd is $2,997.00!!!
    3. Until yesterday, the new MacBook Pro (fresh installation) said I have a Professional subscription and required no activation other than logging in with my MSDN credentials (must double check that tonight to see if it's still true...).

I thought after the transition to Microsoft, the Xamarin subscription would be bound to MSDN so, as long as I'm an MSDN subscriber, I could use Xamarin free of charge. Why there is this strange discrepancy?

@FabioG I'm not quite sure and I don't want to tell you the wrong thing. I'm going to try to find someone who knows more than I do about this. Hang tight. :)

    Hi @FabioG

In your last message you said you 1/ removed the old Mac from the dashboard 2/ activated XS on visualstudio.com 3/ activated a new subscription on xamarin.com 4/ logged back into XS

If you skipped #3 what happens? Or if you go into the Xamarin Account dialog and logout entirely, then login only to your MSDN account in the new account dialog, does the menubar still say "Community"?
