I can SSH into the Mac fine. Troubleshooting guide doesn't help.

/Users/Xamarins/Library/Caches/Xamarin/XMA/Broker/4.2.0.703 This location does not exist on my Mac?? I also cannot install any new updates because the packages keep failing for some reason. I have tried reinstalling Xamarin many times.

Please help as I am behind on clients project due to this.

@ThalesRaymundo Could you try updating Xamarin Studio on the Mac and see if that helps?

Xamarin Studio > Check for Updates...

Your full version info for both Windows and Mac might help:

    Visual Studio
Help -> About Microsoft Visual Studio -> Copy Info [button]

    Xamarin Studio in OS X
Xamarin Studio -> About Xamarin Studio -> Show Details -> Copy Information [button]

The version seems to be up to date (Stable Channel)

@ThalesRaymundo Cheers! Everything looks fine there. Could you try closing Visual Studio, and deleting the contents of the cache located on the Mac here:

    $HOME/Library/Caches/Xamarin

@AlanClark , thanks for the response. I deleted the caches, tried again and got the same error. The Caches/Xamarin/XMA/Broker/4.2.1.64 folder is re-generated but still not working.

Moving to Beta/Alpha Channel didn't solve the issue. Im thinking about reinstalling visual studio, some advice on the folders I need to delete to guarantee a 100% fresh install afterwards?

In my case, the problem is not the Mac, since others machines can connect with no problem

@AlexanderRojas Are you signed into the Mac with the user under which Xamarin is installed?

@AlirezaToosi.0040 Please check that your Mac tooling is also up to date - Xamarin Studio > Check for Updates...

@AlanClark yes, was weird, one day was working perfectly, then I shutdown the computers. windows got updates, and the next day I couldn't connect again, I tried all that is in the troubleshooting page and nothing.

@AlexanderRojas what is your mac OS version??? Is it Sierra??? For ssh connection mac needs SSH key. It should create in ~/.ssh directory. But for Xamarin I could not find this directory in my mac. I tried to mac connection using Putty (third party for make SSH connection on Windows). so I received this warning message :

The server's host key is not cached in the registry. You
have no guarantee that the server is the computer you
            think it is.
The server's rsa2 key fingerprint is:
            ssh-rsa 1024 7b:e5:6f:a7:f4:f9:81:62:5c:e3:1f:bf:8b:57:6c:5a
If you trust this host, hit Yes to add the key to
PuTTY's cache and carry on connecting.
If you want to carry on connecting just once, without
adding the key to the cache, hit No.
If you do not trust this host, hit Cancel to abandon the
            connection.

and after click yes it created ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file.
I have found this article too:
    https://medium.freecodecamp.com/upgrading-to-macos-sierra-will-break-your-ssh-keys-and-lock-you-out-of-your-own-servers-f413ac96139a#.kdjsmmwyn

Maybe this help to find solution faster.

hi @AlirezaToosi.0040 I am using Sierra and I can establish ssh connection with Git Bash, but I couldn't do it with the Xamarin Mac Agent, btw, I have this issue with the Mac OS before, I don't remember if that was "El Capitan" so I upgrade to see if that solves the issue but nothing changed.

I will read that articule and tell you what I'll get, many thanks

Yes! what worked for me was:

    • Create another user in the windows machine
    • Delete all caches in the mac build host
    • Connect to mac through the new windows user
    • no more erros

After this test I just deleted the corrupt profile from the machine and re-created (just to keep using my own company username). Using a few days and ultil now, no more problems.

For me, deleting the contents of the "C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\Xamarin" folder helped solve the issue.

Thank you! That did the trick for me as well.

Deleting the Xamarin cached files by itself didn't work for me.

Creating a new user and deleting the Xamarin cache files (on the mac side) fixed it for me.

I believe I understand at a very high level why this issue has been happening for me and my team.

For a long time I've connected to the Mac, via Xamarin Mac Agent, using UsernameA. I wanted to test a new user account set up so using the Xamarin Mac Agent I "clicked Forget this Mac" and re-connected using UsernameB. This is where I got the error "Couldn't connect to . Please try again". Through VS2017 Looking at the logs (Help->Xamarin->Open Logs...) I saw the error people had been mentioning: -

    Xamarin.Messaging.Ssh.MessagingService|Error|0|Unable to install the Broker
Xamarin.VisualStudio.Remote.State.DisconnectedState|Error|0|Couldn't connect to <MAC NAME>. Please try again.

Following @SachinPatel advice above to delete the contents of "C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\Xamarin" I found once the XMA folder had been deleted I was able to connect to the MAC using UsernameB.

The interesting thing is now I am unable to connect as UsernameA until I delete the "C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\Xamarin" folder.

I can only assume that the Xamarin Mac Agent is only able to work with a single user account and so when the user account changes it's necessary to delete these temporary folders.
