How to get faster device builds?

Hi,
Using VS2015 U3 on a Surface Book i7/16GB RAM, connected to a Mac Mini 2012 model with latest stable Xamarin tooling (see version info below).
Builds and deployments to iOS devices are incredibly slow and fragile (using simulator seems fine, but I can't use that at the moment because I'm doing Bluetooth work). I'm waiting around 3 or 4 minutes just for the build to complete. Then I'll often get:
- "The application XXX needs to be rebuilt due to an inconsistency between the connected Mac and the local app. Please rebuild the application and try again." The "solution" here is just to keep hitting F5 until it decides to run. This problem has been around forever and was supposedly fixed. It's not.
- runtime crashes, but only if I've got breakpoints. By removing my breakpoints, all is good.
- VS freezes. If the runtime crashes and I forget to hit the stop button before I do something like remove breakpoints, VS will just hang.
Anyone else experiencing any of this? Any tips for diagnosing why my device builds are so slow?
