Visual Studio installation process didn't expand variables properly?

I spotted something unusual in the Windows 8 VM I have set up inside Parallels on my MacBook.

My C drive has the following folders in the root directory (dated several weeks ago). I haven't tried to use the Visual Studio integration within this VM, because I only have a personal Indie license.

VS2010_ITEMTEMPLATES_DIR
CSharp
iOS
6 ZIP files
VS2010_PROJECTTEMPLATES_DIR
CSharp
iOS
3 folders, 3 ZIPs
VS2010_ROOT_DIR
Common7
IDE
Extensions
Xamarin
Shell
1.0.0
Lots of files, mainly DLLs
Xamarin.iOS
1.1.200
Lots of files, mainly DLLs

It looks like the templates haven't expanded property, so this stuff has gone to the wrong place.

Is this something you've seen before?

Cheers,
Bob

  • That reformatted badly. The crux is that there are folders at the root of C:\ called VS2010_ITEMSTEMPLATES_DIR, VS2010_PROJECTTEMPLATES_DIR and VS2010_ROOT_DIR.

The VM in question has VS2012 installed, but not VS2010.
