This is an announcement to track the status of a high-priority non-public bug in the XamarinInstaller.exe
installer (as downloaded from https://xamarin.com/download or the big blue button on https://store.xamarin.com/account/my/subscription/downloads). That installer was recently re-signed with a new digital certificate, and that update was causing the installer to exit without any error dialogs on some systems.
This problem should now be fixed as of the December 17th update of the installer. On the small chance that the CDN might still be providing any lingering old versions of the installer, I will also leave the new corrected installer version attached to this post.
If you downloaded an old version of the installer from before December 17, downloading the new latest version from the website will hopefully stop the problem.
In the new version from https://xamarin.com/download still causes trouble, you can instead try downloading, unzipping, and running the updated XamarinInstaller.exe
that is attached on this post.
For reference, the bug report describes the problem as follows:
Download the installer from https://store.xamarin.com/account/my/subscription/downloads.
Run the installer.
Click "Continue".
The installer quits after step 3 with no error messages.
EDIT Dec 17: This problem should hopefully now be resolved.

Hello @BrendanZagaeski, I have this issue too. Workaround 1 did not help at all and it seems that installation manuals in workaround 2 are not updated.
@EduardoMarciano, perhaps try setting your clock back a couple days more? There could be a difference in time zones so your local time might already be too late in the day on December 15 to allow the certificate to validate.
I have now adjusted the wording of the workaround to recommend December 13 or earlier to account for possible time zone differences.
Both guides look OK to me. The exact version numbers shown in the screenshots might be a little old (the Android NDK is slightly outdated), but otherwise the same steps should still hopefully work correctly.
Yes, I went all the way to December 10 (also thinking about time zones)and it did not work. But comparing the manual intallations with the actual intallation guide I selected the first option (Xamarin for VS (+ iOS & Android) 3.11.1594) for Xamarin 3 and it is installing now. I will reply later if this end well.
Thanks.
Update: a re-signed candidate build is now available that will hopefully resolve this issue. It is now attached to the first post in the thread.
That build will undergo additional testing to ensure it passes basic functionality checks this evening, and then it will be published to replace the existing installer on the download pages.
Thanks for the update. Installing now.
The attached installer works better, thank you.
