Error uploading dSYM

I've tried to upload my dSYM just about now, but the Insights page says:
'Error uploading dSYM: Unknown error. Make sure you uploaded a valid .zip file. Please try again'

I zipped the dSYM as before in the same structure as before but now it's not working.

What may I missed?

Same here, happened a few days ago on the old environment as well, but I thought I'd wait for the new version in the hope it was solved, unfortunately it was not.

@MichalHruby Unable to upload via curl as well. I keep getting -- curl: (6) Could not resolve host: xaapi.xamarin.com

When is the fix expected for website?

  • When I try to upload it via curl I get:

    Uploaded dSYM files

Build Ids Filename App Version Uploaded Status
                videoChat.iOS.app.dSYM.zip Unknown Aug 20, 2015 8:54am Failed

@ToddHenderson.2793 If the status is "Failed" it means the upload worked, but there was something wrong with the dSYM, please make sure the zip only contains a single .dSYM file, no directories.

Sorry for the late answer. It is really up and working. Thanks for the answers.

Hi, i have same issue. My zip file contains dSYM directory as usual.

  • Zoltan_KadarZoltan_Kadar USMember

Hi, David. I tried to upload the same package (which was unsuccessful before) yesterday at 9:30am CEST and was successful. But I think Insights is still having an undergoing maintenance and you should try again.
I zipped only the dSYM file directly, so your package should be fine.

    Hi Zoltan,
    thank you for your response.

I have still same issue, nothing has changed :-(

    UPDATED:
Problem not occurs on my Mac where i have last Xamarin Studio. Maybe our build server produce old format (there is not last version of XamarinStudio)

  • Thanks David, very good job on researching on the problem, I'm sure it is helpful for us and others, too.

Thanks @xpetrik, I'll see if I can duplicate the problem on Windows.

  • ChristopherDeutschChristopherDeutsch USXamarin Team, Insider Xamurai

@xpetrik I was able to duplicate the issue on Windows and I've deployed an update.

Let me know if you're still having issues.

  • PetrikDavidPetrikDavid CZMember ✭✭

    Hi Chris,
    works like a charm.

  • Paul_RoyPaul_Roy FRMember ✭✭

    I still have the issue.

Impossible to upload from a browser on windows.

When I try to upload with a browser on mac, the file uploads (I see the progression), then it is added on « Uploaded dSYM files » with status « Queued », and shortly after it is updated with status « Failed ».

    Any clue ?

It sounds like the file you're uploading is invalid.

Are you uploading a .zip of the dSYM directory?

    Have you tried curl?

Can you provide exact OS and Browser versions?

  • Paul_RoyPaul_Roy FRMember ✭✭

Yep, both curl and upload do the same failure.

I upload a zip file, should I attach it here ?

  • ChristopherDeutschChristopherDeutsch USXamarin Team, Insider Xamurai

@Paul_Roy the error message I see internally is "Can't find DWARF folder in the upload"

We're working on a UI update to display messages like these in the table.

  • Paul_RoyPaul_Roy FRMember ✭✭

    Okay I finally found out.
The zip file must have the name xxx.app.dSYM.zip, and must have « Contents » at the root (and not xxx.app.dSYM).

Thanks for the message, this helped me figure out the problem.

  • KennethThormanKennethThorman DKMember ✭✭

@Paul_Roy Would you please clarify your message just above?

    Do you have

    xxx.app.dSYM.zip
    Contents (directory)
    xxx.app.dSYM

    or

    xxx.app.dSYM.zip
Contents (xxx.app.dSYM file renamed to Contents)

I have tried all kinds of variations and I seem to be getting the error no matter what

    Thank you in advance

  • Paul_RoyPaul_Roy FRMember ✭✭

When I build, I have basically

    +-xxx.app.dSYM (folder)
     | +- Contents
    +- xxx.dll
    +- xxx.ipa
    +- xxx.exe

What I do is create a zip from « Contents » like this

    +-xxx.app.dSYM (folder)
     | +- Contents
     | +- Contents.zip
    +- xxx.dll
    +- xxx.ipa
    +- xxx.exe

And then renaming it to xxx.app.dSYM.zip :

    +-xxx.app.dSYM (folder)
     | +- Contents
     | +- xxx.app.dSYM.zip
    +- xxx.dll
    +- xxx.ipa
    +- xxx.exe

And that's the zip file I upload.

    My bad :(

I had a mistake in the build script

    Incorrect code in build script
    zip xxx.app.dSYM.zip xxx.app.dSYM

    Correct code in build script
    zip -r xxx.app.dSYM.zip xxx.app.dSYM

Now it is working as intended

@ChristopherDeutsch I'm having this same issue now. I'm trying to upload from a windows browser. Haven't tried @Paul_Roy 's suggestion.

  • Paul_RoyPaul_Roy FRMember ✭✭

@AdrianKnight To let you know: I completely stopped trying to upload from a browser on windows. The same zipped dSYM file works on any browser on mac (or curl from mac) while not working on windows (any browser).

  • ChristopherDeutschChristopherDeutsch USXamarin Team, Insider Xamurai

@AdrianKnight I see two files were successful "uploaded", but failed to "process" due to invalid zip contents. Did you use something else to upload those?

Are you saying the zip won't even get to the server for processing? Or are you reporting that the processing is failing? Because this thread was originally for uploading not processing and we haven't had reports of failed windows "uploads" since September.

  • AdrianKnightAdrianKnight USMember ✭✭✭✭

@ChristopherDeutsch I had issues actually uploading files too, but you're right that I have two that are uploaded but can't be processed. Do you know what makes them invalid? And in one, I used chrome on windows. In other, I used curl on mac.

  • ChristopherDeutschChristopherDeutsch USXamarin Team, Insider Xamurai

The error message on Settings -> dSYM page says "Can't find DWARF folder in the upload"

If you scroll up there are some others who had the same problem and resolved it. Make sure the folder structure of the zip is what is outlines above.

  • ChristopherDeutschChristopherDeutsch USXamarin Team, Insider Xamurai

    @Paul_Roy I re-test dSYM uploads on Windows.

It's working for me in IE, Firefox, and Chrome on Windows 7 and 8.1

If you have a reliable way to reproduce let us know the details.

  • Paul_RoyPaul_Roy FRMember ✭✭

Still getting the error on windows:

    Error uploading dSYM:
You must upload a valid .zip file.
    Please try again.

My process: I create the zip file from Windows on the shared folder of the mac.

The exact same zip can be uploaded from the mac

  • ChristopherDeutschChristopherDeutsch USXamarin Team, Insider Xamurai

@Paul_Roy can you send the zip that doesn't work to insights@xamarin.com?

  • Paul_RoyPaul_Roy FRMember ✭✭

    Done

I am currently seeing this issue. I've tried uploading from chrome and firefox on Mac, Chrome on windows, and using the curl command. Is there a problem with the website again?
