VS 2010 APK x Eclipse APK

Hi Everybody,

I´d like to know why the same project, using the same images, almost the same files (.cs and .java), the same xml files, on Eclipse and on VS2010 have a so great difference in bytes.

I´ve done a simple project, with only two activities, three xml files, and two .cs files (VS2010) and three .java files (Eclipse). On Eclipse, the apk file has 300 Kbytes, and on VS2010, the apk has 6 MBytes.

I´d like to know why, and if there is a solution to reduce that.

Best Regards,
Marcelo.

This article probably answers your question the best: Application Package Size.

  • Ok Tom,

But how can I do this "Linking" operation over my solution ? The article didnt tell that...

@Olivertech2009: You can set the Linker behavior in the Project Properties/Project Options dialog

    In Visual Studio:

    1. In the Solution panel, right-click Project > Properties
    2. Click the Mono Android Options tab
    3. Linking is a drop-down.

    In MonoDevelop:

    1. Open Project Options
    2. In the left-hand tree, click Build / Mono for Android Build.
    3. Linker behavior is a drop down.

Linking is only performed for Release builds, so make sure you're modifying the appropriate Configuration.

  • Thanks Jonathan !!!
