13" MacBook Air as the primary development machine?

Stan_OkunevicStan_Okunevic GBUniversity ✭✭

Hey folks,

Is anyone current using a MacBook Air as their primary development machine? I do a lot of work on the go (train, various locations), but most of my work is done in an office setting (thus an external display is there to be used).

Can an MBA (the i5 1.6Ghz 4gb RAM one) handle cross platform development properly? As in Xamarin Studio + Simulator, occasional Visual Studio (for Xamarin.Forms work) on a VM, etc. What have your experiences been so far?

(I know it's a bad excuse, but my budget is quite limited, which is why I'm trying to avoid an MBP)

A friend of mine used an Air as his main development machine and was satisfied. I am not sure about the specs his machine had.
