Xamarin Studio won't hit breakpoints

NaboNabo SEMember ✭✭

It's been some time since my last studio update and figured this was as good time as any, so yesterday I updated to studio 5.4 (build 240). 12 seconds later I'm already regretting it.

Now the IDE won't hit breakpoints in what seems to be non-ui-thread-places(?). A simple breakpoint in OnCreate breaks fine but not in OnActivityResult or saveButton.Click += (sender, e) => { ... }. This was working up 'til just before the update. Have i missed some new setting in a release note?

Seems like updating the android SDK's helped with the not-hitting-breakpoints-problem. Now however the debugger steps through the code quite randomly skipping some rows, reverting back to previous rows etc. I'm also getting "unknown identifier" on global variables? Whats the deal with the new breakpoint icons, why are some filled and some not?

I've pointed our runtime guys at this, hopefully they'll figure out what the problem is.

Seems like if i create new member variables (did some for testing) they all become unknown identifier, but some member variables created some time ago works just fine? Don't know if its related to the debug step issue but it seems like my source code is not synced with the actual running code (if that makes any sense).

Am getting this issue with XS but debugging iOS8 on a real device. This is the console output from xcode.

EDIT: Post did not upload attachment, can not delete post...

Attached is the full crashlog. This happens with any and all apps when testing on a device. iOS8 simulator works fine.
(Really uploaded, didn't see it not attach previously)

@JeffreyStedfast‌ Any feedback from your runtime guys? I'm very close to finishing a major update to the play store, but as it sits I can't finalize the release.

  • JeffreyStedfastJeffreyStedfast USXamarin Team Xamurai

The best thing to do would be to file a bug at https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=Runtime under the Debug component so that you can get your news directly from the runtime developers.

They aren't likely to tell me stuff unless I keep pinging them.

Turns out my issue to this was cause by TestFlight.

For what its worth eve though it's an old question it turns out that it's just the debug files loosing sync. Manually deleting the bin and obj folders usually solves the problem for me. Kind of annoying but it works!
