Do i have to use strings.xml for my text?

Hey everybody,
I have a class that contains all my content in all my languages, which I've been using for my iOS apps.
I find the android strings.xml implementation to feel clunky and difficult to work with compared to what I already have.
Is there a benefit to doing it the android way with strings.xml?

Do any of the android OS controls need to read from my strings.xml?

You do not have to use the strings.xml. You can hardcode your strings or can go what ever way you want. But then you will miss the benefits Android offers by using strings.xml. One of the benefits is multi-language support by literally adding a new language-specific strings.xml to your project.
