ASP.NET MVC 3 projects for dummies

MihaMarkicMihaMarkic SI ✭✭✭✭

I tried to run a asp.net mvc 3.0 project on Windows 8 x64.

  • installed Xamarin Studio
  • installed Mono 3.0.6
  • set mono as default runtime (Tools/Options)
  • created new C# MVC 3 Razor project
  1. System.Web.Helpers, Mvc and WebPages references are colored red
  2. I replaced those with .Mvc and .WebPages from C:\Program Files (x86)\Mono-3.0.6\lib\mono\gac. There is no .Helpers assembly.
  3. Now it builds but upon Debug it yields: "Could not launch web server. The "xsp4" web server cannot be started. Please ensure that it is installed." Though there is no XSP4 shortcut I can run it if I modify StartXSP2 (to invoke xsp4).

Now what?

This sounds like the ASP.NET MVC assemblies and XSP4 are are not packaged properly in Mono on Windows, so Xamarin Studio cannot find them. I recommend you file a bug.

Is the bug created? I am having the same situation launching a fresh ASP MVC2 project created with Xamarin Studio...

    Windows 8 64 bits
    Mono 3.0.10 or Mono 2.10.9

I don't think so. I'm trying Xamarin Studio Community edition 5.10.3 (build 51) in Windows 10 and I'm getting this error every time.

I'm wondering if the latest Beta version is working fine.

I just tested in version 6.0 (Build 5166). The bug is still there.
