iOS App Rejected: Wifi Connection Information

Hi All,

Ive just had my app rejected by apple but they are being rather obtuse about the reason why.

The application connects to a local network using NEHotspotConfiguration and when it attempts to do this the app automatically pops up

"APP NAME" Wants to Join Wi-Fi Network "WIFI NETWORK NAME"?

with cancel or join buttons.

No matter what key i seem to use in info.plist, I can't get any description to appear here as to why the app needs to connect.

I have attempted:
NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription
NSNetworkVolumesUsageDescription

However the rejection came as follows:

Guideline 5.1.1 - Legal - Privacy - Data Collection and Storage

We noticed that your app requests the user’s consent to access the local network information, but doesn’t sufficiently explain the use of the local network information in the purpose string.

To help users make informed decisions about how their data is used, all permission request alerts need to specify how your app will use the requested information.

Next Steps

Please revise the relevant purpose string in your app’s Info.plist file to specify why your app needs access to the user's local network information. Make sure the purpose string includes an example of how the user's data will be used.

You can modify your app's Info.plist file using the property list editor in Xcode.

Resources

  • See examples of helpful, informative purpose strings.
  • Review a list of relevant property list keys.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Many Thanks
