Are Xamarin Forms Shared Projects deprecated?

5 years ago, we had to choose between Shared Projects and PCL.
There was quite of a "hype" towards the latter, but we still chose the former.
In 2 years, the PCL was deprecated... Now MS is pushing its alternative, the .NET standart.
Recently, one of our teammates noticed, that in fact now it's impossible to create a new Xamarin Forms Shared project with VS2019. The template is missing. You can still create it with vs2017 and open it with vs2019, but is this some message from MS for the future?
Is there some official statement about the topic?

I think the future is .NETStandard. If you don't see the templete in VS2019, it should be an answer to your question
