How can I browse the gallery to select an image to work with?

Hi there, sorry this is probably a simple question that I am having issues with. (In my defense I am coming off a bad case of the flu and probably cooked my brain for a day or two there)

In my app, I use the camera to take pictures to be stored in a database of products. I would like to allow the user to select images that they have either downloaded, or taken with the camera previously. I have seen one tutorial on how to do it in Android, but I need it to be cross platform for IOS and Windows as well...

I assume that it should be a relatively easy issue of opening the image gallery, selecting the file, and using a file object to get to the data (Byte[]) that I can store in my database.

I just cannot figure out how to go about browsing the gallery or files.

I know this has to be a fairly dullard question, but please any help or links to apis would be most appreciated!

Cheers!
