Error loading project : Version string portion was too short or too long

I am trying to load my project in Xamarin Studio and I am getting the error, "Could not load solution: Version string portion was too short or too long." (See attached screenshot)

I can load and work with the solution in Visual Studio 2013 just fine. However, I prefer to work in Xamarin Studio when I can. Not being able to load the project is concerning me.

    I'm getting the same error message. I've got VS 2013 installed and Xamarin 4.2.3 (build 60). I tried switching back to Xamarin Studio as I was having build issues in Visual Studio and now I cant load the project in Xamarin. I can load other projects that have not been previously loaded in Visual Studio.

    I have been able to load the Android Project in Xamarin Studio successfully. I just cannot load the solution. I hope we get an answer to how to and troubleshoot this soon.

    You can probably just change the top of your .sln file to this:

    Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 11.00
    # Visual Studio 2010

    I figured out how to get my project to once again load in Xamarin Studio. If you edit the .sln file and delete the two lines at the top
    VisualStudioVersion = {0}
    MinimumVisualStudioVersion = {0}

    The solution will load once again in Xamarin Studio.

    I hope this helps anyone that encounters this error and finds this thread.

    Wow, Mark. Sounded way out there, but it worked!

    I had this same problem. My solution was resetting my exception settings.

    Visual Studio:
    Debug -> Windows -> Exception Settings
    Click the menu button in the window to reset the settings to default.
