Title: Inaugural Meetup + Cross Platform Native Apps with Xamarin and MvvmCross in North Sydney

Group: Sydney .Net Mobile Developers

Link: http://www.meetup.com/SydneyMobileDotNetDevelopers

Date: Tue-25-Feb-2014

The aim was to code an app live to run across iOS, Android and Windows Phone and to show it running in the emulators. The app was to have two screens - a simple list screen, and a detail screen viewed when a list entry was tapped. I wrote a simple PCL containing one model (the group suggested 'Contacts' as a data entity to use), two view models and a data service which, although it just returned a list of hard coded values, demonstrated how code can be structured to read from a SQLite DB or the cloud.
There was some great interaction during the whole process, and I got as far as deploying to the iPhone simulators during the presentation. I have since added views for Android and Windows Phone to the code, which is available on github - see the link below.

(It's a simple app - don't expect any rocket science!)

Some credits:

One slide (the one with the cat) was lifted directly from James Montemagno's presentation from the Seattle Mobile .Net Developers Group - thanks James
Thanks also to Mark Radacv of the North Florida Xamarin UG for pointing me to OpenSignal.com's Android Fragmentation Report for 2013.

The event was listed in the Xamarin forums here: https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/13233/feb-25-sydney-nsw-inaugural-meetup-cross-platform-development-with-xamarin-mvvmcross/p1

Thanks to everyone who came - it was a great turnout. Looking forward to the next one.

Cheers
Alec
