Weird error when I compile : IBTool exited with code 255

ormaaormaa Member ✭✭

Hi,

using Visual studio comunity version 7.4.1, on Macos high sierra 10.13.3
I got on github a sample of RSS reader : https: // github.com/Mahabali/XamarinRSSFeed

when I compile, at first : I can run it.

the IOS project target IOS 10.0
the droid project target latest android 8.1

then, all package needed to be updated.
si I updated all package,
and now, I have 2 errors, which (for me) are not telling me what is wrong :
IBTool exited with code 255
the "IBTool" task failed unexpectedly

I tried to delete all bin and obj, and I tried to clean ll before build, without success.

what can I do ?
except delete visual studio, nuget packages, and reinstall everything ? (this is not an option for me :o)

thanks
Olivier

just for information, I tried to get another time the project from github,
and check step by step when the project cannot be run.

I started from the project without any modifications.

unfortunately for me now, I cannot run the github project anymore, aven when I use the project clean without any modification !

it seem then that I broke something when, in the previous try, I updated the nuget package.

    so, last question :
    what can I do ?
How can I do to nuget update without breaking everything ?

    thanks
    Olivier

    Information :

now, it is impossible for me to compile any xamarin forms application, I obtain the same error as above.

except re install everything (which I will not do), any idea of what I could check or do ?

    thanks
    Olivier

    Hello Oliver,

did you try to update Xcode?

I had the exact same errors today. What I did:
    1. Closed Visual Studio Mac
    2. Opened Xcode
    3. Xcode asked to update additional components
    4. Closed Xcode after the update finished
    5. Opend VS again, cleaned the solution and compiled my project successfully

I guess the cleaning was not necessary, but it didn't hurt so I did it anyway.

This was not the first time I ran into this error, but I always forget about it. Would be nice to get a hint from the VS compiler, but unfortunately there is none.

    I hope this helped.

    Greetings,
    Thomas.

Thanks @Trigital, this saved my day. I practically never use XCode so I would have never been able to guess this one.

As an additional comment, I got the intellisense to work properly only after closing Visual Studio, deleting all bin and obj manually and then restart Visual Studio, in addition to the step suggested by @Trigital

    Hi,
Recently i have updated the Xcode, but did not open it.
The next day when i run VS its showed the same error.
Solution: Open Xcode - it will prompt to install the new components/sdk . Installed it and then VS started working.

    Thanks @Trigital
I always forget to actually launch XCode and double check. That was indeed the problem, once i started XCode it asked to download more stuff and sure enough after it wasfinished everything compiled properly.
Your comment saved me a lot of troubleshooting!
