Executing Command or Build Task On Mac

I am trying to run a command on the mac build host when my iOS project is built from Visual Studios on Windows. I don't even know where to start. When I configure a prebuild script just to just run the command 'pwd' as a test, it seems to run locally on the Windows machine and fails. How do I get a command I define within the iOS project as a prebuild step in visual studio to run on the mac? Do I have to go the route of creating a custom build target and task? If so, how do I ensure that runs on the mac and not windows?
